Grandmother, Father and Daughter

We are constantly leaving traces throughout life.

A trace is a way of keeping the memory of a moment or an event in time and even existence itself. As human beings we have created our own set of tools to read, interpret and follow the traces left by our ancestors, as well as a set of tools to ensure that our traces are read by future generations. We do this to share our own experiences and memories; we share our stories so that these may be remembered in the future and also to assure that our knowledge is preserved and does not get lost in time.

There are no permanent traces, as these traces change from generation to generation. Each generation uses the information left by its ancestors and combines it with new experiences and thoughts; the essence of the ancestral trace is absorbed in this new generation and forms a new trace itself.

This project presents a sequence, each object being a copy of the previous one. Each copy is made with a different material, obtaining a different texture and quality, emphasising the identity of each generation. We understand that we are who we are because of the influence of our ancestors, and therefore we will also leave our own trace to be interpreted by our successors.
